CALIFORNIA-BASED STREET ARTIST, LISTEN, DEBUTS THEIR WORK IN COLLABORATION WITH ARTSY x THESTYLEGUYDE GALLERY

The Anonymous Artist Will Display Their Politically-Driven Art for the First Time

Los Angeles, CA, May, 5th 2021 — From May 5th through May 19th, 2021, anonymous street artist, Listen Street Art will debut his work in Santa Monica in collaboration with Artsy x TheStyleGuide Gallery. Curated by Steve Galindo, the artist’s debut will showcase 18 of their canvas pieces. The gallery will be open from 10am – 6pm at 1403 Montana Ave. Santa Monica, CA. Listen’s canvas pieces are conversation starters about America that bring everyday materials to life, his most common mediums being spray paint, acrylic, resin, glue, paper, and caulking.

For over two decades, Los Angeles-based Listen has been anonymously creating compelling street art for any passersby to enjoy. Their stenciled work shows up wherever there might be a good surf break, an empty wall or crevice, or bus bench ads and billboards. Listen’s distinctive work heavily adorns wallscapes, oftentimes temporarily, across Los Angeles and beyond and is instantly recognizable by the style of graffiti and their culturally-driven subject matter that often calls to politics and societal issues.

In 2019, Listen began creating large canvases inspired by the current events of a deteriorating political climate. At first glance, Listen’s canvases appear to be vibrant pop-inflected works, yet they call sharp attention to the issues plaguing society today. Listen’s recent pieces are political satire in nature but ultimately offer a sense of hope and change.

Listen’s work will be displayed early through mid-May in Santa Monica in collaboration with ARTSY x THESTYLEGUYDE GALLERY. In the spirit of collaboration with emerging artists, Curator Steve Galindo presents Listen Street Art under a grant for Emerging Black Galleries. Galindo gained recognition from the platform with his curation during the pandemic on black male identity with Sage Gallon, an American Contemporary painter, photographer, and recording artist. Galindo is focused on uniting communities through the Language of Art Photography, Mixed Media Manipulation, Painting, and Sculpture in hopes of driving conversation of change for marginal communities including, but not limited to, BIPOC and LGBTQ+ in Los Angeles.

“Listen layers his artwork with sketching, stenciling, and spray paint techniques alongside ’90s and early 21st-century contemporary influences from school of thoughts that merge street and beach culture to create unique collectible masterpieces that contemplate the human condition,” Steve Galindo remarked.

Listen will debut 8 canvas pieces of work starting May 5th. Listen’s canvas-style and street artwork can be found on Instagram @ListenStreetArt. More information on THESTYLEGUYDE X ARTSY can be found at https://www.artsy.net/thestyleguyde.
